Logline: Step backstage into the hilarious, glitzy world of drag queens, where fabulous performances, outrageous personalities, and queer culture collide.
Tagline: Behind the heels, where glitter meets gossip, the real drama begins!
Synopsis: It’s A Drag is a bold, glitter-soaked comedy series that plunges into the electrifying world of Australian drag at Opals, a dazzling queer club. Veteran queen Lyn Gweenie, who cheekily resists the title of “Mother” and dazzles with her signature black wig and playful Italian accent, leads the charge alongside newcomer Barbie Q Shapes, the flawless, sharp-tongued political voice we didn’t know we needed, and Indigenous queen Eww La Rue, whose wit and stage presence are unforgettable. Together, they navigate auditions, backstage chaos, and the pressures of performing, supported by meticulous club owner Tim Tammy, the silent-but-expressive bar person Rusty, and shy volunteer Kevin.
Each episode explores a fresh facet of drag culture, queer life, and Australian pop culture, blending biting satire, outrageous humour, and heartfelt moments. From nostalgic musical numbers to jaw-dropping stage performances, the series celebrates drag as art, community, and self-expression while playfully skewering reality TV, celebrity culture, and politics.
Capturing the highs and lows of life in the spotlight, from wardrobe disasters and diva clashes to mentorship, friendship, and personal growth, every episode wraps with our trio deciding who makes the cut, only to face the delicious irony of being turned down by the queens they’ve just accepted.
Vibrant, witty, and dazzling, It’s a Drag is a celebration of queer creativity, resilience, and the joy of living boldly.
